Montblanc Limited 4810 Patron of Art Gaius Maecenas Fountain Pen
The new Montblanc Patron of Art 2011 Limited Edition pays tribute to Gaius Maecenas, a Roman diplomat widely regarded as the founding father of cultural patronage. Maecenas (70 B.C. – 8 B.C.) recognized the genius of the poets of his time, including Horace and Virgil, and offered them full financial support.
Limited to 4,810 pieces, which corresponds to the height of Montblanc in meters, the Maecenas Patron of Art Limited Edition is inspired by the columns of Roman temples; the barrel is created in marbled lacquer, reflecting the magnificent architecture of ancient Rome. The first verse of an ode to Maecenas composed by Horace appears on the cap, crafted, as are its rings, in solid 925 sterling silver. A finely-engraved laurel wreath encircles the top ring and the inscription ‘Gaius Cilnius Maecenas’ is engraved on the cap band. The base of the end cap is graced with an inlaid reproduction of an ancient Roman coin stamped with a likeness of Maecenas. The impressive clip is forged in the shape of an ancient Roman sword. Fine engravings of a laurel wreath and the Roman numerals MMXI ennoble the rhodium-plated 18K gold nib.
